Sangyoung Nam is a Ph.D candidate in the Department of Art History & Criticism at Stony Brook University.

Her research focuses on issues of the body, ecology, and materiality in lens-based media, with a particular emphasis on experimental film and video from the postwar and contemporary periods. She holds a B.A. in Aesthetics and Philosophy, and an M.A. in Aesthetics (Art Theory), both from Seoul National University. She has worked as a curator, critic, and research assistant at several art institutions in Seoul.

She is the recipient of the 2024 and 2026 Society of Cinema and Media Studies (SCMS) Experimental Film and Media (ExFM) Scholarly Interest Group Student Essay Contest Award. Her writings have appeared in Millennium Film Journal and The Brooklyn Rail.
